No problem will ever be fixed until it is identified and acknowledged.
While we deeply appreciate the idea that we need to rise above our differences and love our fellow man, we absolutely reject the notion that demanding accountability in public service and accountability for abuses of public trust is inconsistent with love of our fellows. To the contrary, it is a requirement of and evidence of that love, while indifference is quite another thing.
Government officials are fallible human beings whose primary concerns are their own self interests like every other fallible human being you know. Issues and concerns don't necessarily rise to their "self interest" until they understand their re-election will be at risk for failure to perform. The perception of their competence, good faith, and qualifications for re-election are their primary motivation. If leaving important matters unattended rises to the level of the bright light of public awareness, their re-election can be at risk. So, public awareness is the key to their motivation. Such are the cold realities of politics. Naivete' does not serve the public interest.
So, the squeaky wheel gets the attention of your public officials. Wheels that don't squeak, aren't likely to get any attention, no matter how bad the problem is. That is the nature of politics.
If something meaningful, that you are concerned about, isn't on this list (or at least a public list somewhere), and you are a member of this community, it's on you to add it to the list, and once added, work to call public attention to the fact that the issue exists and strive to build consensus around a constructive proposed solution.
The effectiveness of a representative democracy only exists when people get past complaining and down to the meaningful business and diligent work of holding their public officials accountable to reasonable standards of performance.
